This past week Wyatt had his first day of kindergarten which he enjoyed immensely. I cannot believe how quickly the time has passed us by and I know it only gets worse. This last week I also took our old home videos and put them onto the computer for the first time. My talent as a videographer is basically nil but these memories are pretty priceless nonetheless. Watching hours of footage did make Wyatt’s grown-upness that much more real to me and I thought I’d share some old memories with the new.

Summer Trip Home

This August I made sure to leave myself a full week off to make a trip home with the kids to Eaglesham in the Peace Country. We were lucky enough to have some friends from Airdrie join us on our trip to make it extra memorable. All together there were six children under six and one very helpful nine-year-old which made it very busy and sometimes chaotic but it was totally worth it. A shout out to my mother for doing most of the cooking and allowing us to invade her home. Anyway, here are some of my favorite shots and highlights from the trip.

Ben & Lindsay’s Wedding

The weather for Ben & Lindsay’s wedding day was a bit sketchy but these two couldn’t really have cared less! They were just so thrilled to be getting married that the weather was just a side note. The ceremony and reception were held at the Carriage House Inn which was a great location for us to shoot. After the ceremony we headed to Fish Creek Park with the wedding party and at first the weather was very kind to me with evenly cloudy skies and no wind or rain. Little did I know that one of Calgary’s biggest storms of the year was headed our way. Eventually we did see it coming and quickly got in some more shots before trying our luck at Gerry Shaw gardens. The rain never did let up like we had hoped but Ben & Lindsay were troopers and even sat umbrella-less in the rain for a few shots. Also a shout out to my assistant Susan for looking after me and my gear in the elements and holding my new pet fish, Finn all the way home from the reception. You were a huge help to me as you well know! To Ben & Lindsay, thanks for having us along on your day and congratulations to you both!

Reflections

This morning I downloaded an entire album off iTunes which is unusual for me. I usually have a tough time committing to an ENTIRE album, instead picking out two, maybe three songs but this one was different. Thanks to my friend Marshall, I was given the heads up that Ray LaMontagne had released a new album and I immediately went to the iTunes store, previewed three seconds of it and hit the Buy Album button. The first time I saw Ray sing was on Saturday Night Live and to be honest, Scott and I usually zip right past the music perfomances when we watch SNL but from the first note out of his mouth I was frozen. Anyone who knows me can tell you I’m a sucker for folk/roots music and that I’ll even dip into some bluegrass on occasion. Had you told me this when I was seventeen I probably would have punched you in the face. But here I am, blogging about it for the whole world to know. We all have things that we love, that stop us in our tracks and shut us up. Everyone is a little different, for some it may be voluntarily leaping out of planes into a blue abyss, the first crocus stubbornly pushing its way through crusted snow, or the sounds a newborn makes. For me, the things that still me are random chords strung together on a guitar, the aurora borealis exploding above my head in vivid color, and the bittersweet chill in the air fall brings to my face. Why? I think the chord being struck in my spirit is that call God has placed upon me to seek his face. The beauty I see around me making my spirit still is the reflection of Him in his creation. And I remember my origin, my Maker, my purpose and my destination. This is not by chance, freak or fluke. It is the “eternity set in the hearts of men”. (Ecc 3:11)

Tyler & Lindsay’s Wedding – Calgary Wedding Photography

The day of Tyler & Lindsay’s wedding the city was engulfed in smoke from the BC fires and though it is unpleasant to breathe in it, it made for some lovely light! I really enjoyed spending the day with these two and their wedding party and truly appreciated Lindsay’s calm demeanor. It sure made my job a treat! Thanks for having us along and congratulations to you both!

Fishing Pigeon

This last weekend we spent camping at Pigeon Lake with family and the first night of fishing with the kids we enjoyed lots of action. All three kids caught fish within a couple minutes and after about an hour and a half we had about 25 between the six of us. Here are some captures from that night.

Prince George

Some highlights from our week long family vacation in Prince George at Ness Lake.

The hummingbirds regularly came to the water feature to bathe.

Jan & Stephanie – Edmonton Wedding Photography

I don’t know if I’ve met a couple that is as perfect for each other as these two. Stephanie has a definite flair for the dramatic and Jan is as even keeled as one can get. Their adoration for each other was completely evident the entire time I was with them. A perfect match if I’ve ever seen one! Even though Stephanie has the same roots as me I did not know her until this day and it was a real treat getting to know both her and Jan. The day was incredibly hot without a cloud to be seen but everyone was a trooper throughout photos and Scott and I had a lot of fun. The reception for these two was definitely memorable with more laughter and tears than most and the father/daughter dance was simply awesome! I hope it hits YouTube at some point. Congrats you two, enjoy your sneak peek.

McDonald’s is number one. Jan & Stephanie did a butterfly release following the ceremony.

The thunderstorms began to roll towards us but we managed to escape without getting hit.
