When All Else Fails

Something all caregivers learn quickly is that when all else fails, put the kid in water.

Just Another Weeknight

Most of us have the habit of living our lives for a moment or time we’ve not yet seen.  So instead of me rushing through the dinner prep time of my normal weekday (aka. Arsenic Hour), I took a moment to shoot what was going on.  Because I can’t live waiting for the weekend.

P.S.  Yes, I probably burned dinner.

On One Page

I’ve been following Erika Ray’s blog for a few weeks now and I continue to be struck with her realness, her honesty.  This lady is legit.  People who know me know that honesty is something I value, highly.  So I keep going back and I actually read the paragraphs at the top rather than just skim down to the photos.  I really struggled as I started out in the photography industry to make my photographs “perfect”.  Keep a clean background.  Make sure all the lines are thought out.  Make sure the eye closest to the lens is sharp. Wipe the crusty chunks out of the kids’ eyes first.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.  And not that I’ve ever completely succeeded.  But sometimes I love the photograph more when it’s flawed.  Life’s not perfect.  Relationships aren’t perfect.  Why shouldn’t our art reflect that?  The self portrait I have added below I took shortly before my life took a 180 and now I am so glad I have it.  I will always remember that day.  Plus, thanks to Erika for affirming that self portraits or portraits of any kind need not be staged or airbrushed to have incredible value.

Clap Your Hands

“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;

the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”

A Little Pink – Child Photography

I needed a little pink today.
